Rhayader and Local Area

French Spoken

Breathtaking views, the thundering sound of the magnificent Elan Valley Dams and the truly delightful sight of wild Red Kites soaring above in their natural environment all combine to make a visit to the area one which is not to be missed.

Originally constructed to supply water to the Midlands, the four visible dams (one other lies totally submerged) which can be found in the Elan Valley have attracted visitors ever since their construction. So popular have they become that the area is now often described as the "Lake District of Wales."

Elan Valley - Claerwen Dam

The Dams are within a couple of miles of Rhayader and are easily accessible, either by car, bike or on foot for the more energetic.

Rhayader itself is a small, friendly market town situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of Wales. The town is within easy reach of various tourist attractions while nearby Llandrindod Wells has a variety of shops, a Friday Market and a station on the picturesque Central Wales Railway which winds its way through mile upon mile of open countryside, from the historic town of Shrewsbury in the north to Swansea in the south.

The area is ideally suited for those wishing to tour the region by car or motorcycle, cycle or walk along tranquil country lanes or simply relax in peaceful surroundings.

For the more active amongst you, the Rhayader Leisure Centre is situated quite close to Bryncoed and offers many facilities including a swimming pool, squash court and fitness room.

Should you wish to just sit back and relax while others do the driving, the local bus stops just outside the Guest House.

Further information about the area can be obtained from the tourist centre in the Leisure Centre or here at Bryncoed Bed and Breakfast.

Euro payment also accepted.
