Breathtaking
views, the thundering sound
of the magnificent Elan
Valley Dams and the truly
delightful sight of wild
Red Kites soaring above
in their natural environment
all combine to make a visit
to the area one which is
not to be missed.
Originally constructed to
supply water to the Midlands,
the four visible dams (one
other lies totally submerged)
which can be found in the
Elan Valley have attracted
visitors ever since their
construction. So popular
have they become that the
area is now often described
as the "Lake District of
Wales." |

The
Dams are within a couple of miles
of Rhayader and are easily accessible,
either by car, bike or on foot for
the more energetic.
